This Faculty comprises of two Colleges - College of Veterinary Science situated at Khanapara, Guwahati, about 300 km from Jorhat and Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science located at a distance of 440 km from AAU Headquarters.
The College of Veterinary Science, Guwahati had its origin in Assam Veterinary College established in l948 at Nagaon. The College was shifted to the premises of the Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Government of Assam at Chenikuthi, Guwahati in l950. Later in l960, the College was again shifted to its present location at Khanapara, Guwahati. This College was transferred to the AAU in l969. Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science at Azad started offering only B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree programme from l988.

5.2. Eligibility for Admission
Admission is strictly on merit basis and on the criteria as prescribed by the Academic Council from time to time. The following are the minimum admission requirement for various degree programmes of the University.
5.2.1. M. Sc. (Agri), M. V. Sc., M. Sc. (H. Sc.) & M.F.Sc. Degree Programmes
A candidate must have passed the B. Sc. (Agri)/B. Sc. (Hort.)/B. Sc (Agri. Biotech)/ B. Sc. (H. Sc.)/B.F.Sc. of 4 years duration;/B. V. Sc & A. H. (As the case may be) degree examination of this University or any other University recognized by this University securing a minimum CGPA of 2.60 in 4.00 scale or 6.00 in 10.00 scale or 50.00% or above marks in traditional system. This shall be relaxable for candidates having 5 years of service experience and deputed by the Govt. of Assam/AAU to a CGPA of 2.30 in 4.00 scale or 5.70 in 10.00 scale or 45 % of marks in traditional system.
5.2.2. M. Sc. (Agri.) in Sericulture Degree Programme
A candidate must have passed B.Sc. with Zoology, Chemistry and Botany, preferably with honours in Zoology with at least 45% marks in aggregate and should have at least 3 years of service experience and must be sponsored by the Govt. of Assam or the Central Silk Board. Candidates with B.Sc. (Agri) with an CGPA of 2.60 in 4.00 scale or 6.00 in 10.00 scale are also eligible to apply.
5.2.3. MBA (Agri. Business) Degree Programme
A candidate must have passed the B.Sc. (Agri), B. V. Sc. & A. H., B. E. (Agril. Engineering), B. Sc. (Dairy Science), B. Sc. (Home Science) of four year duration, B. F. Sc. or B. Sc. (Forestry) (As the case may be) degree examination of this University or any other University recognized by this University securing a minimum CGPA of 2.60 in 4.00 scale or 6.00 in 10.00 scale or 50.00% or above marks in traditional system. This is relaxable to candidates having 5 years of service experience and deputed by the Govt. of Assam to a CGPA 2.30 in 4.00 scale or 5.70 in 10.00 scale or 45.00% marks in traditional system.
5.2.4. M. Sc. (Agri) degree programme in Bio-technology
Selection of the candidates for admission to M.Sc.(Agri) degree programme in Biotechnology is based on academic records and performance in the entrance test. Fifty per cent (50%) weightage is given for the academic record and 50% on the entrance test. Entrance tests consist of two papers - Paper I - General aptitude (50 marks), Paper II - Subject matter (150 marks) and viva-voce examination - (50 marks). The candidate must secure 50% marks in the written test to be qualified for the viva-voce examination. A maximum number of 10 (ten) students will be eligible to avail merit scholarship at the rate of Rs. 1,800/- per month based on merit and subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria as notified.
5.2.5. M. V. Sc. degree programme in Animal Bio-technology
For admission to the M.V. Sc. degree programme in Animal Biotechnology, a candidate has to pass B. V. Sc & A. H. from a recognized university securing a minimum CGPA of 7.00 in 10.0 Scale or equivalent. In case of SC/ST candidates, the minimum requirement of CGPA is 6.5 in 10.00 Scale. Out of 10 seats available per year, 5 seats are open for candidates who qualify in the combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. For rest of the seats, a separate entrance examination is conducted by AAU as per the following marks distribution and pattern on a notified date indicated in the Information Bulletin (Back Cover).

- Considering the HR needs in the field of Biotechnology, 30 percent of the total intake of the Ph.D. programme in the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology under the Faculty of Agriculture shall be made open to the Non-Agri students completing 10+2+3+2 pattern majoring in Biochemistry/Bioinformatics/Biotechnology/Botany/ Life Sciences /Microbiology or any other related field with 58 percent marks in traditional system. Such students shall have to undergo a bridge course, either simultaneously or separately.
- Subject to fulfillment of other eligibility criteria, Ph.D. Programme in Tea Husbandry & Technology is open to the candidates with Master's in Agriculture in relevant disciplines as well.

5.4. Reservation of seats
5.4.1. Master's & Ph.D. Programme
- At least 50% of total seats in a discipline shall be reserved for domicile of Assam on merit basis. Remaining seats shall be filled up on merit from amongst all eligible candidates. In case of non availability of sufficient number of candidates in Assam quota, the seats will be filled up from amongst the other categories.
- Reservation for SC/ST and OBC/MOBC candidates shall be as per Govt. of Assam norms
(iii) 25 % of total seats in a Faculty shall be reserved for the candidates sponsored by the ICAR
(iv) 3 % seats for the persons with disabilities as per 'The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995'
1. The candidates from States other than Assam are also eligible to seek admission directly into various P.G. degree programmes of the University on payment of higher fee subject to availability of seats and fulfillment of essential eligibility requirements.
6. SPECIALIZED PROGRAMMES OFFERED
6.1 Specialized Course in Tea Husbandry & Technology
The University has the unique distinction of offering specialized course in TEA HUSBANDRY & TECHNOLOGY both in Under-graduate & Post-graduate level so as to provide professionally trained and technically qualified personnel to man the various positions in the tea industry and its related organizations, The courses being multi disciplinary and industry oriented, cover three broad areas of study,
viz.,(I)Tea Husbandry, (ii) Tea Processing and Engineering and (iii) Tea Economics and Management (including Tea Trade and Legal Matters). Provision of reservation of seat may be seen at clause 5.4.1.
6.2 Specialized Course in MBA (Agri-Business)
The University has prepared itself well to respond to the HR need in Agri-business Management field and accordingly has started MBA (Agri-Business) degree programme under the Faculty of Agriculture from the Academic Year 2002
03. The programme is formulated with the objective to impart education and training for managing income generating and developmental activities of various sub-systems of agriculture, conduct research on varied problems in order to improve management capabilities.
Candidates having B. Sc. (Agri), B. V. Sc. & A. H., B. E. (Agril. Engineering), B. Sc. (Dairy Science), B. Sc. (Home Science) of four year duration, B. F. Sc. or B. Sc. (Forestry) are eligible to apply for the programme. The syllabus for the programme is designed to train the students in the emerging areas of management science in order to make them competent agrimanagers to serve the agri-business sector. Students will get opportunities for taking case studies and research problems in their lines of specialization. Fees structure for the programme will be as per clause 22.
7. Permanent Residence Certificate
All candidates belonging to the State of Assam must have to submit the Permanent Residence Certificate issued by the competent authority (DC/ Dist. Magistrate/ SDO Civil) of the Govt. of Assam. However, it is exempted for the candidates belonging to the following categories:
- Sponsored by ICAR
- In-service candidates deputed by the Govt. of Assam
(iii) Foreign, NRI & NRI-sponsored candidates
(iv) Candidates from outside the State of Assam
8. GAP PERIOD CERTIFICATE
If a candidate discontinued his/her studies after the qualifying examination, he/she shall have to furnish a gap period certificate from the local police authority (Annexure I).
9. SELECTION AND ADMISSION FOR PG PROGRAMME
9.1. Selection procedure
The Application Forms received within the prescribed date will be screened by a Screening Committee as per the
guidelines of the Academic Council.
Eligible candidates will have to appear personally before the Selection Committee at their own expenses, when called
for as per scheduled date. A list of the selected candidates will be notified by the concerned authority for admission on
Note: In-Service Candidates must submit their Release Order/ No Objection Certificate from the competent authority to prosecute higher studies in AAU. Admission of in-service candidates from AAU shall be governed by the revised guidelines in force as notified from time to time.
9.2. Payment of fees
Selected candidates will have to take admission by paying the prescribed fees (Refer Clause .No. 22). Failure to do so at the time of admission will make him/her liable to forfeit the seat and the seat thus vacated will be allotted to the candidate(s) in order of merit from the waiting list.
10. ADMISSION OF FOREIGN CANDIDATES INCLUDING NRI AND NRI-SPONSORED
10.1 Foreign candidate
Foreign candidates seeking admission shall forward their applications through their respective Embassy/Mission at New Delhi or through the respective Indian Missions abroad to the Govt. of India/ICAR and their candidature shall be considered only if they are sponsored/cleared by the Govt. of India/ICAR. Necessary fees shall be charged at the rates prescribed by the ICAR for the foreign candidates. Eligibility for admission of foreign students is as per qualifications prescribed by the University. A good knowledge of English is essential. A certificate of the candidates' proficiency in English issued by the respective Indian Mission abroad or recognized agencies should accompany their applications for admission. Foreign students should arrive one week before the start of the academic session to acquaint themselves with the activities of the College and to attend the Orientation programme. They should contact the DPGS or Dean of the respective College upon arrival for obtaining guidance in different matters.
10.2. NRI & NRI-sponsored candidate
All other conditions remaining unchanged, NRI and NRI-sponsored candidates seeking admission shall forward their applications through the respective Indian Mission abroad to the Govt. of India/ICAR and their candidature shall be considered only if they are sponsored/ cleared by the Govt. of India/ICAR. In case of NRI-sponsored candidates, the application must be accompanied by suitable credentials to the satisfaction of the competent authorities of the University. Eligibility for admission of NRI and NRI sponsored candidates is as per qualifications prescribed by the University. A good knowledge of English is essential. A certificate of the candidate's proficiency in English issued by the respective Indian Mission abroad or recognized agencies shall accompany their applications for admission. NRI and NRI-sponsored candidates should arrive one week before the start of the academic session to acquaint themselves with the activities of the College and to attend the Orientation programme. They should contact the DPGS or Dean of the respective College upon arrival for obtaining guidance in different matters. The NRI and NRI sponsored candidates, if selected shall pay the fee of Rs. 5.00 lakhs in three installments -first one for Rs. 2.5 lakhs at the time of admission into the 1st year class and the remaining two for Rs. 1.25 lakhs each at the time of admission into 2nd and 3rd year class of the degree programme in addition to fee prescribed for Special Category as indicated in Clause No 22.
11. 1. Orientation
In order to make the students conversant with the requirements and working of the course credit system of instruction followed at this University, an orientation programme will be arranged on the dates specified by the DPGS/Dean in which attendance of all the admitted students is compulsory.
The candidates who fail to attend the orientation classes will forfeit their seats and the same will be filled up by the candidates from the waiting list in order of merit. The wait-listed candidates once admitted, shall have to attend the orientation programme organized on the day of admission.
11. 2. Advisory Services
A major adviser shall be assigned to each post graduate student by the Head of the Departments as per provision of Regulations on Academic Matters.
11. 3. Refund of Caution Money
Refund of caution money shall be made to a student after his/her release from the University. The claim of caution money shall not be entertained beyond a period of one year from the date of release. Release of caution money shall be made against application in prescribed form and production of release order. The caution money shall not be refunded if a student leaves the College without permission and/or does not join and attend any class after admission.
11. 4. Readmission
A student who leaves the college with permission from the DPGS/Dean/Assoc. Dean (As the case may be) after completion of the requirement of at least one semester may be readmitted after a break of not more than four subsequent semesters on payment of prescribed re-admission fee.
AAU has a Central Library at Jorhat, named Rev. B.
M. Pugh Library, and smaller units of the Library at constituent colleges. The Central Library has a total collection of 123,114 books, 83 numbers of current periodicals, 16,400 back volumes and 301 Ph. D. Thesis. The library is also presently providing online journal facilities under CeRA (Consortium for E-Resources in Agriculture and allied sciences) sponsored by ICAR. The Central Library, Jorhat had started its digitization process with SOUL library software of INFLIBNET by digitizing the bibliographic information of a part of its document.
Rev. B.M. Pugh Library : A Treasure Trove
Regular students are required to stay in hostels of the University unless permitted otherwise by the concerned authority. Students are admitted to hostels upon payment of hostel dues (Ref. Clause No. 22) at the time of admission to each semester. The hostels are provided with the basic amenities. A student may require a minimum of Rs.1000.00
p.m. as mess dues.
Students are to maintain perfect discipline and proper atmosphere of studies in the hostel. Violation of hostel rules will be strictly dealt with according to the regulation of student's discipline framed by the University.
14.1 The System
The course credit system with Internal as well as External assessment is followed in the University for both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. The medium of instruction in both the programmes is English.
14.2. Academic Year
The academic year of the University is from August to July. The academic year consists of two terms of 95 instructional days excluding the examination days. Each term is called “Semester”. There is a break of few days between two consecutive semesters.
During a semester, the students register themselves for a number of courses. A “Course” is a unit of instruction of a subject matter under any discipline carrying a specific number of “Credit Hour(s)”.
14.4. Credit Hours
“Credit Hours” signify the quantum of work done corresponding to 1 hour of theory class or 2-3 hours of laboratory/field practical every week during a semester in respect of a particular course.
A student is to maintain a minimum of 75 per cent attendance separately for theory and practical in each course failing which he/she is debarred from appearing in the End term examination.
There are two examinations in a semester, viz., Mid term examination and End term examination. Mid term examination is conducted in the middle of the semester, whereas the End-term and Practical examinations are held at the end of the semester. Besides a student has to appear in quizzes/tests and carryout field/laboratory/ library/clinical assignments throughout the semester.
The level of performance of each student in a particular course is evaluated in a 10.00 point scale/grade. The performance of a student in the examinations is finally calculated on the basis of "Cumulative Grade Point Average” (CGPA), as detailed in Regulations on Academic Matters, 2010 (Amended).
The climate of the State is pleasant for most part of the year. The winter lasts for about five months viz., from October to February. Though summer starts from March and April, the weather is quite pleasant. There is heavy rainfall during the months of July and August.
16. DRESS AND CLOTHING
During summer, cotton clothing is adequate but in winter, warm clothes, quilts or blankets are necessary. In addition to bed rolls, students should have the mosquito nets.
The students should dress in College blazer during games, sports and other special occasions. Students are to use white aprons, during laboratory practical and shorts in field practical. For attending University functions and within the campus, every student is expected to be properly dressed.
All students are to maintain perfect discipline and proper scholastic atmosphere during their stay at the University/College. On admission into any College and hostel, students must acquaint themselves with the University, College and hostel rules and regulations. Copies of Regulations on Academic Matters of Assam Agricultural University, will be provided to each student during orientation in the respective colleges. Ignorance of any rules will not be treated as excuse The Dean/DSW/ Assoc. Dean/ADSW/DDSW shall be responsible for the maintenance of discipline and good behaviour of students in his/her college and anywhere on the campus or outside it. In case of any violation of disciplinary rules as mentioned in the Regulations on Students Discipline, the matter shall be referred to the Disciplinary Committee for action. Ragging is completely banned in the University. On the date of orientation each of the selected students and their parents shall require to submit affidavits in accordance with the UGC regulations on “Curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions, 2009”. Copy of the said regulation shall be provided to the selected candidates at the time of admission.
18. SCHOLARSHIP, MEDALS AND AWARDS
18.1. Scholarships and Other Support
State Merit Scholarships are awarded by the University to the students. Such scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria as notified. 18.2. Award/Continuation of Scholarship
Subject to the provision of regulation, award/continuation of scholarship shall depend on the maintenance of overall satisfactory progress in studies, regular attendance and good conduct of the student and on such other terms and conditions as laid down in the Regulations on Academic Matters as amended from time to time.
18.3. Discontinuation of scholarship
Award of scholarship of any kind shall be discontinued from the date, the awardee is placed on the academic or conduct probation, as per provisions of Regulations on Academic Matters as amended from time to time.
18.4. Non-eligibility for award of scholarship
Students on deputation receiving pay or deputation allowances and/or any other financial assistance from any source in the form of scholarship and foreign students shall not be eligible for award of any type of scholarships offered by the University.
18.5. Other scholarships
Besides the University scholarships a good number of other scholarships, are offered by the State Govt., ICAR, DBT, ITA, and other Agencies. However, a student shall be eligible to accept only one scholarship.
18.6. Medals and Cash Prizes
The University offers a number of gold medals/cash prizes to meritorious students at the University convocation, subject to the fulfillment of eligibility criteria as indicated against each of them:

All Medals/Cash Prize holders must complete the degree programme within the minimum period prescribed for the degree without repeating any course (s) and without obtaining “F” grade in any course (s). 19. TRAINING AND PLACEMENT
A Training and Placement Cell (TPC) was established in the University Headquarters during 1998 to cater to the needs of its students for their career development. The Cell organizes training programmes on Personality Development, Communication Skills, Leadership and such other areas. It also facilitates Campus interviews and placement of select students in various government and non government organizations. During last 3 years more than 86 students have been placed through campus placement in various organizations like Union Bank of India, United Bank of India, CAPART, Gassim Pierre Ltd., Pradan,

20. STUDENTS' WELFARE
20.1. Sports, Recreation, Social Service
To enrich cultural, literary, physical and social life of the students, the University provides facilities for gymnastics, games and sports, music, study circle, drama etc. The University teams are provided adequate support for participation in local, regional and national sports events and games.
The co-curricular activities such as games, sports, athletics, drama, social service etc. are arranged by the Student's Society/Union in each College. NSS Programmes are organized in each College in which the students are enrolled as volunteers.

20.2. Medical facilities
There is provision for medical care and health service in each of the Colleges.
20.3. Students Aid Fund
With a view to rendering financial aid to students in distress, a Students' Aid Fund has been instituted in each College. All students are required to contribute in the fund at the beginning of each academic year.
20.4. Students Society/Union
All students admitted to the College automatically become members of the Student's Society/Union and are entitled to participate in the Society/Union election. All students are required to pay the Students' Society/Union fee at the beginning of each academic year.
20.5. Students Magazine
The Students' Society/Union of each college publishes a magazine to encourage creativity of the students. The students are to pay the magazine fee at the beginning of each academic year.
20.6. Educational tour
There is provision of educational tour for the Post Graduate students.
The degree is finally awarded to the student by the Chancellor in the Convocation Ceremony.

C. Instruction for the Candidates:
- The candidates are required to submit the filled in application form attached with the Information Bulletin within the closing date.
- No further intimation will be given to the candidates for appearing in the interview. However, those candidates whose candidature is cancelled due to various reasons shall only be intimated.
- Candidates shall have to appear before the Selection Committee as per date, time and venue with all original certificates, mark-sheets, testimonials and other documents, at their own cost.
- Candidates if selected shall have to take admission immediately after the interview on payment of necessary fees as given in the Information Bulletin. A candidate failing to take admission on the day shall forfeit the seat.
- Failure to report to the Selection Committee as per time schedule shall have no claim for seat.
- Appearing for interview does not guarantee right to admission in the programme. Selection Committee reserves the right to accept or reject a candidate under the rules
- No relaxation on the above is allowed under any circumstances.
